About Letterheads
Letterheads is a free, browser-based letterhead maker. We built it because designing a proper letterhead — one with correctly calibrated margins, a real paper size, and export files a print shop or Microsoft Word can actually use — usually meant either hiring a designer or wrestling with a generic slide-deck tool. We wanted something in between: fast enough to use in five minutes, precise enough to hand to a printer.
The editor runs entirely in your browser. Your logo, your design and your saved drafts never leave your device unless you choose to export them — there's no account system, because there's no server-side storage that would need one.
What we care about
Free, no sign-up
Every template, font, colour and export format is free to use. No account, no watermark, no paywall on export.
Your data stays on your device
Logos and designs are processed and rendered entirely in your browser. Saved designs live in your browser's local storage, not on our servers.
Built for real stationery
Paper sizes, margins and print resolution are calibrated to actual print specifications, not just what looks good on a screen.
No dark patterns
Exports are full quality from the first use. We don't degrade free exports to push a paid tier.
How the templates are put together
The library runs to 294 designs across 10 categories, and they are built from a shared set of parts rather than drawn one at a time: 10 header architectures (stacked, split, banner, masthead, monogram, sidebar and a few others), a set of colour themes, and 14 type families you can swap at will. Six of those combinations are offered as ready-made pairings — Fraunces with Inter, Playfair Display with Lora, Cormorant Garamond with Libre Baskerville, and three more — because setting a display face against a readable body face is the part people most often get wrong.
What the export actually produces
PNG and JPG exports are rasterised at 3.13× the on-screen canvas, which puts them at 300 DPI — the resolution most commercial printers ask for. SVG export is true vector, so it scales without loss. PDF is sized to the paper you picked. The Word export is a real .docx with editable text rather than a picture of a letterhead, which does mean it carries a simplified version of the layout: decorative borders and SVG logos do not survive the trip, so use PDF when the design matters more than the editability.
Paper sizes cover A4, US Letter, Legal, A5 and Executive, and margins are set in millimetres so you can match whatever your printer or print shop expects. Nothing is watermarked and nothing is held back for a paid tier, because there isn't one.
