Stationery conventions worth keeping
Personal stationery has its own conventions and they are gentler than business ones. The name usually sits alone, without a job title. There is rarely a logo. The address, if it appears at all, often goes at the top right or in a small line at the foot rather than running across the header like a company contact block.
Restraint is the whole effect. One typeface, one colour, generous margins, and nothing that looks like marketing. A personal letterhead that tries to brand you reads as a business letterhead with the company name missing.
Picking a size that suits the letter
A4 and US Letter are correspondence sizes — fine for a formal personal letter, a complaint, or anything going into a file. For a shorter note, A5 or Executive feels considerably more like personal stationery and less like a document.
Both smaller sizes are in the paper selector and the design reflows to fit rather than shrinking, so a header that looks right on A4 will not end up cramped on A5.
