Crest, motto and founding year
School stationery carries things business stationery does not. A crest rather than a logo, often a motto, frequently a founding year, and usually the name of the head teacher or principal. These are identity markers for an institution that expects to outlast everyone currently working in it, which is why school letterheads lean traditional even when the school is new.
If the crest is a detailed illustration, give it room and upload the highest resolution you have. Crests suffer more than wordmarks when they are scaled down, because the detail that makes them read as a crest is the first thing to go.
Letters home are not letters to other institutions
A school writes to two very different audiences. Letters home — trip consent, term dates, a note about a child — are read quickly by a parent who wants the point in the first line. Letters to other institutions, governors, inspectors or local authorities are formal records.
The same letterhead can serve both, but the version going home benefits from a lighter footer and a shallower top margin so more of the message fits on one page. Save both as separate designs in the editor and switch between them rather than editing one each time.
