What survives the trip into Word
The .docx export is a real Word document rather than an image in a page. Your name, tagline and contact line go into the document's actual header, the footer text into its footer, and the body into editable paragraphs, with page size and margins matching what you chose. Open it in Word and the header repeats across pages the way it should.
What does not survive: decorative borders, background patterns, and the more structural header architectures, because Word rebuilds the design out of paragraphs rather than drawing it. Logos come through as PNG or JPG — an SVG logo is skipped, so upload a raster version if you need one in the document.
Editable document or header image?
Two routes, and the right one depends on what you are protecting. If people will type letters in Word and you need the layout to be editable, take the .docx and accept the simplified design. If the design is the point and the text is secondary, export a PNG header and place it in the Word or Google Docs header instead — the design arrives intact and the text sits underneath it.
Google Docs has no .docx-header equivalent worth using, so the image route is the practical one there: Insert → Header, add the image, set wrapping to put it behind the text.
